BECOMING A VOLUNTEER PATIENT

WE WANT OUR STUDENTS TO BE REALLY GOOD AT THIS.

You can help in a rewarding and tangible way, contributing to a future generation of doctors.

WHY BECOME A VOLUNTEER PATIENT?

At Dalhousie Medical School we believe that students can’t learn from books alone. They need practice interacting with real people, as they aspire to be health care professionals that are accomplished clinicians, compassionate caregivers and outstanding communicators.

We are looking for people to be Volunteer Patients at our Halifax and Saint John campuses from October 2011 to March 2012 so our first year students can practice their interviewing and physical examination skills, under the watchful eye of a physician-tutor.

You will be helping future doctors learn and practice their skills in a teaching/learning setting without responsibility for clinical care.

  • Our sessions are Tuesday pm and Thursday am for 3 hours resuming in the Fall 2011.
  • You may be asked to change into a hospital gown for some physical examinations. No sensitive areas are examined.
  • We will contribute $10.00 to travel and parking expenses.

HOW MUCH TIME DO I HAVE TO COMMIT?

How much time do you have? One afternoon? Great! More than one? Even Better!
